Basic Bricklaying

Thinking of building a Brick Fence, Letter Box, BBQ and more?

Overview

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to take on any brickwork job around the house.

You will be introduced to the basics of bricks, mortar and jointing techniques, and will be taught the tips and tricks of laying the perfect brick by our qualified and expert bricklayer.

In a quick and easy three Saturdays you will be able to tackle all those difficult brickwork jobs such as building a brick fence, barbeque, or that letterbox you have been avoiding.

Participants will need to provide their own protective footwear.

Course structure

Day 1

o    Oh&S principles & Introduction to tools and materials and their uses

o    Spreading Mortar

o    Setting out brick bond

o    Laying bricks using a spirit level and gauge rod

o    Jointing brickwork using various styles

Day 2

o    Lay bricks piers to a specified height

o    Letter box footing construction and setting out BBQ designs

Day 3

o    How to fix broken bricks in a fence and mend broken bricks in a house wall

o    Mend broken bricks in a house wall

o    Explain the uses of weep holes, expansion joints and flashings

o    Clean up & BBQ drinks.
