The Diploma Course is designed to give students practical experience of management in the Building and Construction Industry and is a pathway to registration as a *Building Practitioner (Commercial).

Our course is designed to incorporate the needs of industry to ensure that our students will be highly sought after in the employment market. In this course you will use computer programs that are being used in the industry. You will undertake assignments and projects that relate to issues you would encounter in the real world of the Building and Construction Industry.

Upon completion of the Diploma qualification you will have the knowledge and practical skills to manage commercial and industrial projects as well as low-rise residential building projects. You will learn about contract law, building computing, tendering, planning and scheduling, and quantity surveying of residential, industrial and commercial building projects. Possible roles this will lead to include, but are not limited to, housing supervisor, project manager or contract manager, quantity surveyor, estimator or scheduler, purchasing officer.

PREREQUISITE
  • 18 years old or above.
  • Minimum Year 12 or equivalent. No industry experience required.
  • Minimum IELTS of 5.5, or equivalent.
  • Completed Certificate IV in Building and Construction.
  • All students are required to have their own Laptop and a USB wireless internet connection
  • Minimum computer skills required as follows:
    • create folders and sub folders
    • save files in the desire location in the computer
    • rename files
    • delete files and folders
    • install programs
    • download files from the internet and save in the desire location
    • zip and unzip files
    • basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel 2007 or 2010.
    • work with different browser e.g Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.

Delivery

This qualification is delivered within a classroom environment supplemented by worksite visits and inspections. A training plan detailing the training dates and associated units of competency will be provided at your induction day.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

  • Have you been working in the building and construction industry?’
  • Do you have a minimum of 4 years experience in this field?
  • Are you interested in having your experience assessed as to whether it counts towards your qualification?

Credit Transfer (CT)

  • Do you hold a qualification for one or more of the units on offer?
  • Do you have a certificate or statement of attainment showing these results?
  • Do you wish to complete your qualification?

Prospective students may be eligible to receive credit transfer based on existing qualifications. Applicants should provide CT evidence to TIV at the time of application.
