Congratulations on your enrollment to Trade Institute of Victoria!

Now get ready and prepare your trip to Melbourne and the new life as a student study at TIV. Here are some points for your reference.

Before arriving in Melbourne

Suggested pre-arrival checklist:

• Your passport with obtained student visa?
• Booked your flight to Melbourne?
• Arranged Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)?
• Arranged the contact person to be met on arrival?
• Arranged your accommodation?
• Had a dental check up / eyes tested or glasses made?
• Had your immunizations?
• Acquired the necessary clothing and objects?
• Prepared a budget of your cash enquired for the first 2 months live in Melbourne?
• Arranged for money to be available to meet your tuition fees?
• Contact details of Trade Institute of Victoria (TIV).

Arriving in Melbourne

Australian Immigration and customs

Australia has strict rules on what you can and cannot bring in to Australia. The Australian Quarantine website contains further information on what you cannot bring into Australia e.g. food items. Please ensure you read this website carefully before traveling to Australia as there are heavy fines for carrying prohibited items into Australia.

On the aircraft, you will be given an Incoming Passenger Card to complete. Make sure you complete this card correctly (instructions will be given to you) and declare all goods as requested. Declare any items you are unsure about on your way through customs after you arrive at the airport, and seek the advice of the customs official if unsure. There are bins in the baggage collection area where you can discard prohibited items before going through Customs.

Please ensure that you contact TIV upon your arrival to Melbourne, so that we are notified and ensure to arrange your place for the orientation day.

How to get to TIV?

Trade Institute of Victoria (TIV) is located in Williamstown , a nice waterfront suburb close to the City of Melbourne.

Get familiar with your campus, and look at ways to get to and from class.

• By public transport: If you need help working out how to get from your home to TIV and back, have a look at the MetLinkMelbourne which details public transport options.
• By driving: Why not car pool?  If you know someone in your class that drives and lives near you, sharing the transportation by driving to TIV is a great way for the environment and will also enable you to familiarise yourself with people that live close to you.
